Road Trip!

After weekends and weekends of shows, Mom and I finally got two weeks off from crafts. (Well, not really. We made a lot of product while we were "off.") So, sorry for no blog posts. I was busy relaxing and procrastinating like a stereotypical teenager.  But, I'm ready for more blogging, which means, more shows!

Our car was packed on the way down. A bit scary!
This weekend mom and I are on a road trip. We're traveling about an hour and a half down to Bassett High School in Bassett, Virginia to the Bassett High School Band Boosters Craft Show. This show is supposed to be huge with over 130 vendors! We've spoken to a few of the vendors who have done this show before, and they say that it's great.

Mom and I are extremely excited for this show. This will be our first time at this show and the farthest show we've ever had away from home. (It's so far that we chose to spend tonight at a hotel!) We're hoping it will be as great as people say. The one thing we don't hope for is getting lost on our way to the high school... Again.

Hang In There!

It was dark, cold, rainy and even snowing in Southwest Virginia this morning. All I wanted to do was curl up under my blankets and lay in the warmth from my bed. Unfortunately, I did not get that choice. Today, Mom and I had to wake up extra early to drive to Dublin, Virginia to set up display for the Dublin Lions Club Craft Show. (However, I will admit that I fell asleep during the car ride over.)

The more the morning went on, the more I wanted to go back to sleep. We forgot a good amount of our supplies/stock, we had to run to the store multiple times and almost were unable to put up our wreath display! I think everyone was having the same thoughts as me.  It was much easier to lay in bed and not deal with the cold rain. So, the start of the show was very slow.

At around 9 AM, the rain stopped and people started coming in. But, we had barely taken in 5 dollars, so it seemed like we wouldn't make any profit today. Normally, we don't do as well on rainy days, but today was looking like it would be a long day.

Then, at 11, our booth was full of customers! Snowmen candy bars were selling like crazy, snowmen candles were almost sold out and we only had one more girl baby cake in 6-9 months.
Even with the rain and snow, that didn't stop people from coming out to us, other vendors, and Santa Claus. We ended up making much more than normal and Mom and I were both happy with the outcome of the day.

My selfie with Santa!
I personally would absolutely love to do this craft show again. It was pretty big and had a lot of variety when it came to vendors. Plus, you get to see Santa! It's fun for the whole family.

Today was a great example that, even though things aren't going the way as planned or things don't look like they're going in the right direction, you need to hang in there and keep going. Even if you have multiple things against you.

Giving It Another Shot!

I will admit, I was being a typical teenager and procrastinating when it came to writing the Sweet Shoppe’s blog the first time. This past weekend we had our first show and it sparked some inspiration inside of me.

Our first show of the season was the Floyd County Arts & Crafts Festival which is a two day event. It's a good sized show with over 180 vendors and free parking and admission. It's one of our best (and favorite) shows and this past weekend we did outstanding! It was a little windy, but that didn't stop people from coming out to see us and other vendors. Many customers who stopped by our booth noticed one of the biggest changes we made in the Sweet Shoppe... the display!

We moved some tables around, took out one table, and completely changed our wreath display. We exchanged the tacky white wire racks we had  for a much better PVC pipe and lattice structure. It stood about 4 foot high, but we will be adding to it so it stands 6 foot. Wreaths will no longer be standing up behind us. Instead, they will be on the side of our booth so customers can touch and see the wreaths better.

I personally love this new display and I hope I can get Mom on board with it. She's not too happy about where we sit. I think we have much more room for customers and we still have out all of our product.

We're trying to give our booth a more candy store feel, so the display is going to be changing a bit in the next year or so. Our main colors will be white and pink and cupcakes will be everywhere. Products will sit on cake stands and in candy jars and items will be grouped together based on their theme ( Ex. Baby gifts, candy, wreaths). We even may double our space in the future, but as of right now, we're staying with one booth.

Mom rockin' one of our new aprons!
To go along with our candy store theme, we decided to try out some new cupcake aprons. Even if they don't give off the feel of a candy store or bakery, we had so many positive comments that we will definitely keep these aprons! We're even thinking about getting "The Sweet Shoppe" embroidered onto the front.

To see our aprons and new display, come visit us at the Newbern Fall Festival in Dublin, VA on October 11th and 12th, 2014. Also, please make sure to go see and support other venders. See you guys there!
